Dobrý den, I am writing about the problem with the Fio Banka my girlfriend had recently. She went to the bank office and asked a bank employee to make a transfer from her account (EUR) to another account in Thailand (THB). A week later transfer returned and 50 EUR was taken. Transfer was not done and the bank took the initial fee first and secondly this 50 EUR. Moreover 1 month ago I made the same transfer by internet from my account in Fio Banka and everything went well. Details provided to the bank employee were the same as details i used myself. I wrote a complaint to Fio Banka and I asked about the explanation. They just closed the ticket and no information were provided. I feel cheated and I don't know what should I do now. I will appreciate any advice. Poradíte?

Hello,

such a bank transfers to the countries far away are always complicated. The bank connection is not direct (Czech Republic - Thailand) but the money are going via many other countries (example: Czech banks have direct connection with Russian banks, Russian Banks with Chinese Banks and Chinese Banks with Thailand). The informatin provided for the payment request has to be 100% accurate (even one small typo can be a reason for later rejection - typically done by a bank at the end of this long chain). If the payment is rejected by Chinese bank, the message (and money) are getting back via Russian bank to the Czech Republic...and this connection is unfortunately not 100% reliable regarding the handover of rejection details.

I would say it is more about bad communication of Fio banka than a purpose or cheating. Surely they should tell you more about the details of international payments, risks and possibilities of failure (although even they maybe do not know for 100% the exact reason for this particular case). You can try to chase Fio banka for the fee return - print payment details from internetbanking from your account (where the transfer was successful) and her account - if the data are 100% identical it will be obvious that the mistake was not done by her.
